Certain medications may require pre-authorization by your insurance company.

When the doctor requests fasting lab work we request that you have nothing to eat for 8 hours prior to your lab work.
You may drink plenty of water the night before and in the morning. Black coffee is also allowed.
If in the past you have had unpleasant side-effects from having a blood draw, please notify the nurse prior to your lab work.
Most HMO insurance plans require that you have your blood drawn outside of our office at a large national laboratory. This requires the doctor to fill out a laboratory form. You may receive this form during your visit with the doctor. If you need to have blood work done before you see the doctor, please arrange to pick up this form at our office.
Generally lab work requires a week to be completed. If you would like a copy of your lab results, these can be mailed or faxed to you. Please call our main line and select extension 39 to leave us a message and your fax number or current address.
If you require an interpretation of your lab results, we request that you make an appointment to see Dr. Rutman so that he can explain the results to you. If there is a significant abnormality in your lab results, we may call you and request that you make an appointment to see the Dr.

From time to time the doctor may request that you see another specialist or subspecialist because of your health problems.
He will usually give you their business card and instruct you to call their office and make an appointment to see them.
Some insurance companies require these visits to be pre-authorized by them. This process can take up to 7 days. The nurse will speak with you regarding the requirements of your particular plan.
